Food truck extravaganza. Every weekday, from 11:00 to around 2:00, there is a terrific area of food trucks parked here - just 4 blocks from the house. This is where the local office/Dilbert crowd eat every day. The specific trucks are different each week, but you are going to find great food, a plethora of culinary nationalities represented, and a 25 minute wait behind the best trucks - like the crepe truck if it happens to be there that week.

This is our favorite brunch spot. They have a lovely outdoor space and the complimentary bread basket alone is worth a quick Uber ride to get here!

Essentials

This grocery store is an easy 4-block walk from the house. This has a good deli and hot food bar at lunch time. There is also a starbux in the store. If you have a car, you can park in the underground garage for free for 90 minutes. However, you have to spend at least $8 at the grocery store and make sure to get your parking ticket validated. Because the parking isn't cheap if you don't.

If you love animals and nature, you really must see the Zoo while you are here. The panda bears are exactly like you've seen them on tv - playful, cuddly, cute and complacent. Terrific place to take the kids. There's a lot of walking involved, and the food is expensive and nothing to be excited about - but the Zoo itself is free. It's free!

This is a wonderful, natural, National Park, right in DC. It has great hiking trails, great bike riding, and even a planetarium. You could spend days in this park and not see it all. All the flora and fauna that this area has to offer can be found in Rock Creek Park. https://www.nps.gov/rocr/index.htm

Our rock music days are behind us, but if you enjoy live music, 9:30 Club is the concert venue in Washington DC. People younger than me tell me they have great bands every night of the week.

It's a coffee house, and the place to go in the DC area to hear the singer-songwriter types in an intimate venue. If you are interested in this, make sure I put you in touch with my co-worker Greg. He goes to over 100 music concerts a year and knows everyone at Jammin Java.

Arts & Culture

This and the Natural History Museum are the two most popular museums in DC. If you really love all things aviation, the Air and Space museum is actually in two places. The other, larger museum, in Chantilly, VA has the Space Shuttle Discovery, the Enola Gay, and an SR-71 Blackbird. That is a ways out from our house, and you need to check traffic before going there. But if you make a day of it, you will enjoy it.

Getting Around

There are 3 entrances to this metro station. The closest one is at 7th and D Street, but the one at 7th and Maryland isn't too hard to find. You have to purchase a smart card to use the metro, which you can do from a machine at the station.
