Enjoy some fine dining in the harbor - in a lovely setting with great hosts. The owner is a delight and you will get to chat with him as he always shows himself. Be sure to make a reservation and ask for the windows table.

If you care to try real Dutch fries, Van Ree is the place to be. There are several locations, one is downtown, a little on the outskirts of down town, near the train station. Don't go for atmosphere, go because you just want a big bag of fries. Freshly cut potatoes. Spoorsingel 2, 1621 HJ Hoorn

A 9 kilometer walk trail, accessible from the house. It's a very exciting walk over dikes, and through nature made possible by a farmer family who opened up their farm land so people can experience this area in full. https://www.wandelnetwerknoordholland.nl/routeplanner

City/town information

Hoorn is a small harbor city with a lovely town square. Throughout the year they have activities to enjoy. Think about King's Day April 27th. The yearly carnival in August. And in the summer, every Wednesday there is the old fashioned cheese market. There are boat rentals, kayak rentals, and beaches. https://www.tripadvisor.nl/Attractions-g188595-Activities-Hoorn_North_Holland_Province.html

Another love harbor town. In Enkhuizen there is actually lovely seating along the harbor, restaurants and bars everywhere. I can also recommend the Brewery: Brouwerij de Werf. brouwerijdewerf.nl Easily accessible by train, and a lovely bike ride. What some people do is take the train one way, bike the other.

If you feel like a day on the beach, taking the train to Zandvoort is so easy. This beach has many choices for beach pavilions. And you can also enjoy a walk in the dunes. For this walk more towards the lower end of the beach pavilions, they all have numbers.

If you have a car, a trip to Bergen aan zee for a beach day might be very much worth it. Bergen is a cute town. Lots of little boutiques and restaurants. Only a 40 minute drive.

A piece of France, right here in Northern Holland. A wonderful local Winery with 8000 wine stalks. You can take a tour for only €5 and then enjoy a lovely lunch or dinner here. It's lovely to see that this is a family business, all children involved in one way or another. Wijngaard Saalhof Siem en Ada Loos Oosteinderweg 57 Wognum +31 229 572 487 info@wijngaardsaalhof.nl

Every Saturday we have a market through out Hoorn. I usually start with a coffee at Koffie van Hoorn and then circle the marked. Buying fresh fruits and veggies is cheaper than buying in the supermarket. I usually end up in the square for a glass if wine or more coffee, with apple pie. Be sure to bring your own shopping bags as those are not provided in The Netherlands, due to environmental issues. Open from 9am - 5pm

Local Coffee

A must when you are in Hoorn. It's a lovely coffee shop where they roast their own beans. Fun seating out back in the little yard or upstairs looking over the yard. Their cakes don't only look good, they taste good! Also open on Sunday.

Visit this farming family for your local milk, eggs, cheese, yoghurts and fruits. And they have more than this... And with a little bit of luck they'll let you visit the newborn Jersey cows.

Be Safe, Park your Bike

When you plan to leave your bike for the day, because you are taking the train... I advise you to use the bike parking at the train station. It costs €1,35 per day and it is worth it. Many bikes get stolen! When you just bike around town, you can lock up your bike on the streets. Best is to use a cable lock and attach bikes together, along a pole/tree.
