Parque Chapultepec might not be in La Condesa proper, but seeing as the neighbourhood stops right at its start, it feels churlish to leave it out. The second-largest park in Latin America, it’s a sprawling, yet beautiful space it would take days to fully explore. Only a 15 minute walk through constituyentes avenue.

Sitting just 2.8km away from centre La Condesa, this castle on Chapultepec Hill has seen its fair share of history. It went from housing royalty, a headquarters for the military, and housing foreign dignitaries. Take your time strolling through the colourful corridors donning mural paintings and featuring several artefacts from days past.

Mercado Roma is hipster central; a covered market filled with little food counters from some of Mexico City’s most popular restaurants and cafes. The tamale de quest con rajas tacos from Azul Antojo are some of the best tacos we’ve ever tasted, and we were always finding excuses to treat ourselves to some churros from El Moro. The Ozio ice cream stall is also amazing.

This stylish Roma Norte restaurant serves the prettiest tacos using plant-based ingredients. While there are other dishes on the menu like enfrijoladas, enchiladas and mole mixteco, the Insta potential is clearly in the pink tacos coloured with beetroot.

Lalo is a busy, colourful cafe in Roma where guests share tables and the lines stretch down the street on weekends. Is it worth it? Probably but if you can visit on a weekday instead, do that. While the other dishes look tasty, I don’t think you can beat the warm French toast topped fruit compote and a melty dollop of ice cream.

City advice

Getting around

Metro

Mexico City metro system is efficient and affordable purchase, a reloadable card for easy access to all lines.
Getting around

Uber and taxis

As hosts, we always suggest Uber as it’s more affordable, and a safer option. Taxis can take advantage of foreigners and we often don’t recommend them unless they have been booked through a recognize company.
Getting around

Walking

Many neighborhoods are pedestrian, friendly, so wear comfortable shoes and explore on foot.
