Hikes

A great 9 mile round-trip hike up a 10,000ft+ mountain. This hike has about 3,000 feet of climbing, so bring plenty of water. The northern rim of the Grand Canyon is visible from the summit on clear days.

Explore this 1-mile-long lava tube in Kaibab National Forest. Bring several sources of light (there is no lighting in the cave) and a jacket: temperatures can be chilly in the cave year-round.

A challenging, but beautiful, hike to the summit. There are many additional trails in the area.

It's entirely possible to drive through the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert in one day. I recommend speaking to a park ranger and asking what their top choices are for 1-2 mile hikes.

What to pack

Bring Layers!

While our elevation helps keep temperatures cool, layers are essential- both for warmth and for sun protection. A rain jacket or windbreaker is my go-to article of clothing to keep me warm when the weather gets breezy.
