This popular osteria is carved inside the neighborhood’s man made mound of ancient amphoras. Just as spectacular as its location is Flavio’s authentic, no-frills Roman cuisine: try their tonnarelli cacio e pepe (square cut noodles with pecorino cheese and black pepper), coda alla vaccinara (oxtail stew), polpette di bollito (fried meatballs), and award-winning rigatoni alla carbonara (pasta in a sauce of egg yolk, pecorino, pork cheek, and black pepper).

some of the best Osterie in town can be found in Testaccio! For real roman dishes like pasta carbornara (made with egg and pancetta), amatriciana (made with tomato, onion and pancetta) or some good ol' simple cacio e pepe (made with lots of pecorino cheese and black pepper) try this place!!

Diners typically come here for the bistecca fiorentina, Chianina steak, Angus beef, Kobe beef, or lamb chops, but plenty of pasta, fish, and pizzas round out the menu for those seeking an alternative option. Great wine selection! Great decor! Sunday brunch!

There are plenty of food markets around Rome, so why would you come to Testaccio to check out a food market? For starters, the market at Campo de' Fiori, though it may be famous, is quite touristy and doesn't have much of a selection. Here at Testaccio market you will find all best italian products! cheese, oil, prosciutto, mozzarella, meat, vegetables, fruit and much more! Lot's of take away stands with high quality sandwitches!

Opened over four decades ago, Volpetti is hands down the reigning king of Rome’s gourmet food scene. Red wine infused salami, black and white truffles, whole legs of prosciutto, a cheese collection, fresh pasta, extra virgin olive oil, aged balsamic vinegar, and international favourites like pata negra, Roquefort, and Scottish salmon crowd the counters.

Another reason to come to Testaccio is to check out one of Rome's most famous Contemporary museums, the Macro Testaccio. The museum was once home to a slaughter house and then later turned into a museum in order to showcase some of the best Italian and international contemporary art works. The complex showcases art exhibitions, performances and all sorts of special events. MACRO Testaccio also has a sister museum, also called MACRO but is located in the Trieste/Salario neighborhood. If you're into contemporary art, the Macro Testaccio is definitely worth an afternoon during your trip.
