Parks & Nature

The hotel does wonderful food overlooking the beautiful lake with a fairytale castle tower. There are 100s of lovely walks, a boathouse where you can hire canoes, rowing boats and sail boats and bike hire near the RSPB centre at the dam. It is about 13 miles around and well worth a cycle, though I'd cycle first and then visit one of the many restaurants or cafes as when you are full, the relatively flat cycle route seems to turn into something build by Esher as you are constantly going up hill - maybe I should learn to eat a little less?!

Llanrhaeadr Waterfall is the longest single drop in Wales (longer than Niagara falls apparently, though a little narrower!) There are beautiful walking trails around and behind the waterfall up onto the Berwyn mountain range which is rarely walked so quite wild! The café at the bottom of the waterfall does excellent snacks and hot drinks for those cold walking days!

Empty, open vistas, lovely snowdonian mountain style range with very few other walkers, but a lot of bracken at certain times of the year!

Sightseeing

Amazing pre-Christian site with some of the oldest yew trees in Wales. Gorgeous little chapel with stunning hare carvings. Beautiful position. Perfect for quiet reflection or just a nice place to picnic!

Entertainment & Activities

Amazing and very cheap (entry is free) Not only is there an iron safari park but also living birds of prey centre, a nice café, demonstrations and lots of potential shopping from the lowest to the largest budget. We have been very impressed with the place and the events they put on each time we have been.

Arts & Culture

Ancient hillforts were a major part of our area and there are actually a few smaller mounds near the cosy cabin, however this one shows the way it was made and the information on the boards explains life on the mound!
