Hiking to the tippy top for great views. Pro tip: hike for sunrise or sunset. It is very hot and dry mid-day. If you smoke don't start a fire!

Neighborhoods

West beaches are the best beaches! Any stretch along the west end is a gem. It is on the leeward side of the island, which means it is usually the calmer waters. Snorkel, dive, swim, float, you cant go wrong. West food is some of the best food too! Stop at food trucks. Order Roti and Pate and whatever piques your interest. Ask questions and freely give compliments (and cash tips!)

City advice

Customs and culture

Greeting everyone

"good morning" "good day" "good afternoon" "good evening" "good night" We acknowledge each other as a sign of respect and community. Calmly greet everyone, everywhere, all the time.
Getting around

Stay Left > further left

Our roads are narrow and we have no shortage of potholes. For your safety and the safety of those sharing the road with you: STAY LEFT! More left than you think is necessary. It can be hard to get used to but you do not want to hug the center like you might, in the states. Corners are tight and you don't want your passenger on the wrong side of the road. My friend used to say, "If you stick your hand out the window and cant feel grass, you're not far enough over." Have a passenger be designated navigator and if you need to realign directions, pull over. Don't be on your phone!
Getting around

Intersections and frequent stops

As a small community, we show great care for each other in our daily movements. We will absolutely stop traffic to let someone turn into heavy traffic. We stop for pedestrians. We stop to say hello to friends. We make frequent stops. We don't always use blinkers. Don't look at your phone while driving and give the person in front of you plenty of space. Intersections can be tricky, go slow and watch what others are doing. If you make a wrong turn it's okay, pull over and try again. Patience is a virtue, you'll make it where your going, have fun and be safe.
Book before you go

Check social media and websites. Call before you go.

Closures happen for a number of reasons. Calling ahead to make sure the place you want to go, is open, is never a bad idea. Reservations are always a good idea. Use social media to see if they have posted a closure notice and/or call ahead to make sure you have their operating hours right.
