The Turrialba volcano has been active for a long time, but since 2012 and more recently in February 2015 it has had a couple of eruptions. The surroundings and the city Turrialba are also a must see.

The "main square" is home to the ruins of the Santiago Apostol Church which is one of the many attempts to build a church here. Earthquakes in past decades always demolished uncompleted churches.
