Lots of volcanoes in this area, Mt.Hood is an hour plus drive from the house but well worth it. You can also do a loop trip that is great. Timberline lodge is always fun spot visit, home to the movie The Shining, for anyone not familiar.

This is my favorite hike in the area, 15 minutes from the house. Can go up the Washougal River to get there or on HWY 14. Can make a loop of it. Trail has a few nice overlooks and nice views. Can be done as a loop hike or out and back.

City advice

Getting around

Washougal

Washougal is a lovely town. Home to the Pendleton Woolen Mill and some say, DB Cooper still has cash hidden in the hills. Columbia and Washougal river. Nice combination of city with a rural vibe. All the conveniences like a convenient store down the street to a quick drive to a Safeway. Major box stores 15 minutes away. Liquor, beer, and wine are available at any convenient store or grocery store. There are a handful of good places to eat and drink within walking distance to the house. Great access to the Columbia River Gorge, PDX and the city of Portland.
