Neighbourhoods

Shoal Bay is a beautiful pocket of the Port Stephen’s shire. There are many shops, cafes and restaurants along Shoal Bay Road to explore as well as plenty of activities to enjoy. Indulge in some of the beautiful beach walks and bush walks that this area has to offer! A walk to the summit of Tomaree will extend views of Nelson Bay and beyond. There are amazing bush walks to the peaks of surrounding mountains and beaches, and at the base of Tomaree you can walk through a part of Port Stephen’s history to see the WW2 Gun Emplacements.

The center of Nelson Bay is the “hub” for your everyday needs, there are many shops, restaurants, cafes and grocers for all your shopping requirements. On weekends the Bay hosts markets including the Fly Point Market, and the Homegrown market on the Nelson Bay foreshore and during summer the Marina opens up the Splash Waterpark!

City advice

Getting around

Walk locally!

During peak holiday periods parking can be a nightmare! Whilst we recommend driving out of town where able, we recommend walking locally or making use of the courtesy buses that some venues offer (Shoal Bay Country Club, Soldiers Point Bowling Club, Nelson Bay Bowling Club). Note that there are limited taxis and when it becomes busy (Eg. Friday night/weekends/holidays) there can be a long wait for local cabs to come and collect! Buses are also available, with a bus stop only a few houses away.

Leave it how you found it
