Great place for breakfast. Also, despite the good food and service, the wait times seem to be a bit shorter here (likely because it's known more for lunch and dinner than breakfast).

Great place for Mexican food. Conveniently located in the "headquarters" of Seaport Village (just a few blocks away). Although it's casual, reservations are recommended as there's usually a wait.

The primary draws of East Village include Petco Park (home of the Padres) and the main San Diego library. Additionally, the area also has some restaurants and shops worthy of a visit. On a side note, East Village is also the predominant homeless area within downtown San Diego.

Although it's definitely a younger crowd, Pacific Beach is worthy of a visit by all ages.

Getting around

Rent a car

Unless you're going to be spending most of your time downtown (which is highly walkable), it's best to rent a car. San Diego is a sprawling area which includes almost 30 miles of coastline (starting south of downtown and continuing up to La Jolla)
