Some very nice walks start here at the end of San Francisco Blvd. On the ridge there are views of the Marin Civic Center, wetlands, and San Pablo Bay. This is the place to be if there are fireworks.

Unlimited hiking, with two creeks and a waterfall. A ten-minute drive from the house, at the end of Cascade Drive. This map only shows fire roads, but it's easy to get to on city streets.

Food Scene

Relaxed and kid-friendly. Lots of happy bikers stop here after coming down off the mountain. Beer and brauts for $5 apiece, and board games for families.

Just over the hill to the west in the San Geronimo Valley. Comfortable dining inside or on their deck. A fireplace for when it's cold. Not particularly cheap, but not bad for what you get. Friendly.

Shopping

I could almost list this place under "Arts & Entertainment" -- lots of interesting things to inspect and possibly buy. This was started with the help of the talented kids of a local artist; it shows.

In the center of downtown San Anselmo. Nice shops and restaurants (some on the far side of Sir Francis Drake Blvd to the east), and check out Creek Park just down the block.
