The Essex Street Market is a historic culinary destination on NYC's Lower East Side - my own great grandmother shopped there 75 years ago and it's still going strong. Inside are many small food vendors, restaurants and alike. A must visit destination in the LES.

Drinks & Nightlife

My absolute favorite place to see live music in NYC. It is the oldest operating Jazz club in NYC with great shows every night of the week. Friday and Saturday evenings it gets livelier with solid funk music. Sunday evenings features the Creole Cooking Jazz Band, I stop by once a month to enjoy the classic new orleans music.

A lower east side long time favorite cocktail lounge and restaurant with the best lychee martini in NYC. Verlaine has seriously good food (asian themed). Even better, it has the best happy hour deal I know of - 7 days a week from 5-10pm with $6 martinees.

TheTenement Museum focuses on America's urban immigrant history - the building it's housed in is a National Historic Site itself. When my own family immigrated to America in the early 1900s they first lived right next door!
