Food Scene

Run by the lovely Carolina, Cape Fruit is a small haven at the end of Santa Maria. Their breakfast wraps will set you up for the day and their smoothies will keep you fighting fit. Highly recommended for breakfast, lunch, coffee and cake.

Great location on the beach, a great spot after a day in the sun. Whether you're looking for a cheap beer, generous G&T or fish of the day this is a great place for an easy lunch or dinner at very little cost. Sometimes local percussionists will play across, in the beach.

The main restaurant in this hotel is in a very romantic setting, looking out over the ocean, surrounded by low lit lighting. Good for fresh fish and a variety of local dishes. We also recommend heading there on a Sunday to try catchupa - a local breakfast dish.

Great for breakfast and evening takeaways. We enjoy the banana pancakes and iced tea. We also hear the steaks are excellent. A nice walk along the beach road (from the back of Vila Verde) in the early morning before the sun gets too high.

Essentials

Probably the most popular supermarket in Santa Maria. You will find it on a road off the second roundabout on the approach to the town. Ask any local and they will guide you. It is also on Google maps. Taxis pass by frequently so you don't have to worry about carrying everything home!! Good for fresh and frozen items. Plus some familiar foods and brands from home. It has a limited fresh fruit and vegetable selection.

Entertainment & Activities

We couldn't recommend Amy and her team highly enough. Whilst set up as a kite surf and watersport school, Amy will help you get so much more out of the island from bikes to yoga, this is the place to go if you want to keep moving during your stay!
