Food Scene

The best southern breakfast for the best price around. Fantastic biscuits, gravy and I always get the pork loin. They still do "Stirred" chocolate milk which my son still orders (he's 30!). They have been around for a long, long time.

The entrance building has the history of the dam, which is very interesting. Just seeing the dam is amazing. You can drive across it and go to a pull-off above it where you can see both sides of the dam at once. The park also has hiking trails, playgrounds, and events for children and for families that are worth attending.

It is a whole area (not a single building) with artifacts and buildings set up to show what life was like in old Appalachia. Sometimes they have musicians playing on the cabin porches. They have a restaurant and a gift shop also. Our daughter actually got married outside on the museum grounds.

This is a small center across the street from the Museum of Appalachia that has locally made selected art for sale. Plus they have artists that often are working in the basement on quitling, weaving, or pottery that will show you what they are doing. The store has beautiful pottery/ceramics, woven items, quilts, photography, basketry, and carved wooden items. All are unique and local-not what you find in the Museum gift store.

This is a local small grocery store with excellent butchers and the place to buy some high quality cuts of meat and other incidentals you might need. Pick up the Norris weekly newspaper while you are there. It will tell of any live music events they might be having in Norris or children's activities. The series of Music on the Lawn is really a fun time for families of anyone else. you take your own lawn chairs or blankets, can take picnic, everyone is just relaxed, making it a scene from bygone times.
