The name of this bistro leaves little to the imagination, and while the cosy space on the edge of Greenwich Market also serves charcuterie — which hangs from the ceiling — cheese and Champagne are the main focus. Although served in those annoying conical flutes, the Champagne is sensibly priced and available with a selection of sharing boards. Service is quick and friendly, the décor is quintessentially French and the creamy, Burgundian Brillat-Savarin is a must-try.

Ecuadorian owners give The Hill a Latin influence, but the food sticks more or less to a Mediterranean theme. Expect dishes such as tricolore salads, hand-carved Iberico ham, pastas, pizzas and cariucho de pollo. South America does feature too, though, in weekly specials and in empanadas, Ecuadorian ceviche and lomo a la pimienta - Argentinian fillet steak with peppercorn sauce.

Pushing boundaries, Guy Awford’s menu changes regularly, built on complex but unfussy ‘modern British’ dishes. The Sunday roasts are also amongst Greenwich’s best; elegant but unpretentious.
