Sightseeing

Chapman's Peak is the name of a mountain on the western side of the Cape Peninsula, about 15 kilometres south of Cape Town, South Africa. It is opposite the inlet on which the town of Hout Bay is centred. The western flank of the mountain falls sharply for hundreds of metres into the Atlantic Ocean. A spectacular road, known as Chapman's Peak Drive, hugs the near-vertical face of the mountain from Hout Bay to Noordhoek. Hacked out of the face of the mountain between 1915 and 1922, the road was at the time regarded as a major feat of engineering. Chapman's Peak Drive was closed in the 1990s, after a rockfall caused a death and a subsequent lawsuit, and subsequently reopened after being re-engineered to protect motorists from falling rocks. It was reopened in 2005 as a toll road. The road was again closed for a number of months beginning on 19 June 2008 "as a result of risk areas identified on the mountain above the road", but has since been reopened indefinitely.[1] Chapman's Peak Drive is part of the route of two of South Africa's biggest mass-participation races, the Cape Argus Cycle Race and the Two Oceans Marathon

Food Scene

I really love that they have a wide selection of craft beers as well as wine by the glass to choose from. The cocktails are also divine! The food is amazing, I would go as far as to say it was mind-blowing. I ordered the Asian Pulled Pork Pizza - you cannot go wrong with this one! So filling and the flavours are combined to perfection. My husband had the Stepchild burger - no frills, basic, but delicious! The patty is thick and juicy and it is a decent sized portion food. Mikayla had the margarita pizza, and even that was to die for - super cheesy, just the way she likes it! They also have a great selection of milkshakes, the coconut being my favourite

Drinks & Nightlife

“Since opening our doors in 2006, café Roux has become an institution in the Noordhoek Valley. It’s a place for friends and family to meet, eat good food and drink great wine. Sit outside in the sun under sprawling oak trees or in a walled-off, child-friendly corner beside the playground in summer; in winter the fire is blazing inside with good music, newspapers and magazines to amuse. The hub of the local community, we offer a fresh, seasonal menu, accompanied by a chalkboard that changes regularly. Expect uncomplicated café food for breakfast and lunch along with home-made cakes, scones, muffins and tarts, freshly baked in-house and served throughout the day. Enjoy café Roux @ Night with a smaller clipboard menu. You’ll find live music on Saturday & Sunday afternoons (2pm – 4pm) , and an outstanding lineup of live music & comedy on various week nights that we’ve named “café Roux Sessions with The Wolftrap” . Every week, we are showcasing SA’s most exciting artists in a uniquely intimate setting. As we said from the day we opened….”We wanted to create a special place where we could sit outside in the sun with our family and friends, eating great food, drinking our favourite wine, listening to music. Simply enjoying life…” Paul, Lindi & Bern Le Roux.

Parks & Nature

Named the ‘Cape of Storms’ by Bartolomeu Dias in 1488; the ‘Point’ was treated with respect by sailors for centuries. By day, it was a navigational landmark and by night, and in fog, it was a menace beset by violent storms and dangerous rocks that over the centuries littered shipwrecks around the coastline. In 1859 the first lighthouse was completed; it still stands at 249 metres above sea-level on the highest section of the peak and is now used as the centralised monitoring point for all the lighthouses on the coast of South Africa. Access to this historical building is by an exhilarating 3 minute ride in the wheelchair accessible Flying Dutchman funicular that transfers visitors from the lower station at 127 metres above sea level, to the upper station at 286 metres above sea level. Table Mountain National Park forms part of the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site. It includes the majestic Table Mountain chain, which stretches from Signal Hill to Cape Point, and the coastlines of the Cape Peninsula. This narrow stretch of land, dotted with beautiful valleys, bays and beaches, contains a mix of extraordinarily diverse and unique fauna and flora.

Southern Africa is often considered the “gemstone capital of the world” as almost half of the world’s gemstones are found in this part of the world. For this reason, experiencing the amazing beauty and variety of gemstones is an absolute “must” for visitors to Cape Town. One of the most popular and convenient places to see and buy gemstones in Cape Town – and see an amazing variety of gemstone products – is at The Scratch Patch and Mineral World outlets at Simon’s Town and the V&A Waterfront.
