Cres lamb gets top billing at this down-to-earth village restaurant, which has been run by the same family for well over three decades. Try the lamb breaded, grilled or roasted on the spit, or tuck into homemade gnocchi and pasta instead. Bukaleta is in Loznati, 5km south of Cres Town, and signposted from the highway.

B ora Bar Trattoria & Tartuferia is a relaxed and cozy ‘konoba’ (tavern) in Rovenska Bay, on the island of Losinj where Italian chef Sasso keeps on satisfying happy customers with his home style cooking since 2006. Chef Sasso and his team make delicious creations with pasta (which are prepared daily at the restaurant), fresh Istrian truffles, local seafood, delicious Croatian meat and mouthwatering homemade deserts. The unique pasta dishes are made using his family recipes with the best products and an abundance of love. They strive to use local produce and thus support the small local community of producers and farmers. Herbs and spices are picked on the Saint Ivan hill and around the island. Only seafood caught in the Adriatic Sea is served and care is taken not to buy fish that is out of the season or forbidden. Fresh black summer truffles arrive directly from one of the Earth’s chakras – the Istrian peninsula. The small, but smartly chosen wine list is a breath of fresh air among other selections on the island.

The Museum of Apoxyomenos is a unique archaeological and architectural cultural institution in our region and it is entirely dedicated to only one exhibit – the bronze statue of a young athlete, the Apoxyomenos. The statue was discovered in 1997 by a Belgian tourist at the depth of 45 m. In 1999, it was taken out of the sea where it spent nearly two millennia.

Within the boundaries of this heavily forested national park, 16 crystalline lakes tumble into each other via a series of waterfalls and cascades. The mineral-rich waters carve through the rock, depositing tufa in continually changing formations. Clouds of butterflies drift above the 18km of wooden footbridges and pathways that snake around the edges and across the rumbling water. Tickets must be bought online.

The rich flora and fauna make it possible for visitors of the Brijuni National Park to return to nature and its principles. There are more than 400 species of plants growing on the islands, while numerous autochthonous and allochthonous species comprise the islands’ fauna. https://www.np-brijuni.hr/en/brijuni

The Church of St. Lucy in Jurandvor near Baška, Krk, Croatia is a Romanesque Catholic church from the year 1100 with two major medieval Croatian artifacts: the Baška Tablet, and a checkerboard-pattern carving on the bell tower that is suspected to be one of the first instances of the Croatian coat of arms.
