Avondale House was the birthplace of Charles Stuart Parnell (Aghavannagh Barracks was his shooting lodge) You can visit and the beautiful Georgian house and walk in the 500 acre forest park. There are very beautiful walks along the river.

The only certified organic restaurant in Ireland. It also has a very good Italian restaurant for a more laid back meal. Booking is essential. 15 minutes drive from us.

Good pub food with wonderful friendly staff. Always a turf fire and live Irish music on the weekends (seasonally) We are just ten minutes drive over the hill from Glenmalure.

With a Sri Lankan chef, The Grainstore in Aughrim is an excellent spot for an evening meal. The menu is a mixture of ethnic and local dishes. 10 - 15 minutes drive from us.

The Happy Pear has become an iconic place in Ireland due to its friendly service and wonderful healthy vegetarian food. This place is definitely worth a visit coming to or from Dublin. Breakfast, lunch or tea you are bound to get a delicious treat. We are 45 minutes drive from the Happy pear, worth stopping either coming from Dublin or heading back there.

The Fern Tree restaurant in Avoca is a really lovely spot to stop at on your way here from Dublin. They have a delicious lunch and dinner menu with excellent vegetarian choices. You can also just drop in for tea or coffee. Booking is essential at the weekend.

An avenue of rhododendrons and Irish yew runs from the rear of the house, surrounded by glades of southern hemisphere conifers and many other rhododendron and azalea species. Admission is free and there is a cafe on site.
