Great Tapas, but even greater Flameno and Jazz in the bar. Flamenco is a living part of Santa Fe's heritage, if you can, you try to see some while you are here. It is an incredible experience to watch/hear it live. La Emi is a jewel if she is dancing.

Our favorite Santa Fe bar for a hand-crafted cocktail. Near the plaza. I think one of the ingredients in the smoked sage margarita is magic.

Great music nightly, very friendly and homey, great way to wind up a day trip to Taos. You could come up and get a tour of the Taos pueblo, see Kit Carson's home, look out over the Rio Grade Gorge (it is amazing ) or visit the beautiful Millicent Rogers museum, then enjoy a dinner and music at the Adobe. The Neighbors are our favorite Taos band, some times we head up just to them if they are playing.

Indescribable, but you will immerse yourself in a different world, kind of a mix of Harry Potter, MOMA, and Dr. Suess. Another George RR Martin gift to Santa. Check it out online if you are looking for an interesting way to spend an afternoon. Some live music there as well in evenings.

Really beautiful Japanese Spa. Great message, or rent a beautiful outdoor hot tub to share. Specially nice in the dark, in the snow and stars, but always lovely. Fun to rent a tub for a family or a couple. Women friends can enjoy the shared woman's pool. There is a nice restaurant adjoining if you want to make an evening of it.

World class opera all summer long in a covered outdoor opera house, with amazing views and sometimes a storm to mix lightening with the singing. Incredible experience if you like opera. Pre-opera lectures are fun, and arriving early and bringing a tailgate picnic supper is the classic Santa Fe way to go. Santa Fe being Santa Fe, some people will come dressed in their finest opera gowns and best suits, others in their jeans, all are welcome.

If you come in winter and ski, Santa Fe has both a down hill ski area, and some nice cross country trails. You also might consider heading up to Taos. In the autumn, you can take the ski lift up to see the foliage, and walk down.

Arts & Culture

A whole road of art galleries, amazing stuff something for everyone... wear good walking shoes! Our two favorite Galleries are the two Dark Bird galleries -- Kelly Moore, "art renegade" (Thur-Sun) http://www.kellymoore.net/, next to the beautiful Teahouse, near the top of the road at 821 Canyon, and Kat Livengood photographs 620 Canyon, a few blocks down, just off Canyon on Canyon Alley.

Wonderful museum with ever-changing exhibits featuring contemporary Native American Art. Sometimes political, sometimes haunting, sometimes funny, sometimes just beautiful, we never know what to expect. Just across from the cathedral, also worth checking out, it is really beautiful inside, and also next to a nice little French cafe in the La Fonda, where you can rest your feet and recharge -- a warning: the French cafe doesn't take credit cards.

Sweet music performance venue, intimate, great sound, bringing in talented traditional, jazz, blues, folk music from around the country and the around the world. Every performance we seen has been stellar -- recently we were graced to hear there a great Cuban band, and a great band from Ireland. Check out their web page for what is playing.
