Food Scene

They have the BEST breakfast hands-down. Be adventurous and try the national dish of ackee and salt fish (also known as codfish) with fried dumplings and plantains. Yum!

The jerk pork is to die for as well as the jerk chicken, roast fish and festival, a sweet fried pastry. When we land in Montego Bay we go straight to Scotchies from the airport and we always see at least one person from our flight who did the same thing!

It is located right on the water, so the views are stunning. The food is pretty good. The jerk pasta gets a thumbs up. However, we go there primarily for the night life on Friday nights and some Saturdays. If you are in Montego Bay to ring in the New Year, Pier One is a must!

Essentials

You can find any and everything at MegaMart. Think grocery store plus wholesale club (like Sams or Costco in the United States). It's huge. Make a list before coming to avoid being overwhelmed, or just enjoy the experience. They are open 24 hours.

This is a very lovely grocery store; it is very clean and bright. If you prefer to avoid the largess of MegaMart, you will enjoy Hi-LO.

Shopping

It is a nice plaza with a Progressive Foods grocery store, a few clothing stores, a pretty decent Indian restaurant and our favorite cafe, Coffee and Creme Cafe. They have great smoothies and a tasty banana bread.

Parks & Nature

At this resort, there is a beach club called Sea Winds Beach Club that is open to the public. We just love this place. There is a beautiful beach with cabanas and lounge chairs. There is a large pool, bar and restaurant. We just make a day of it. There is an entrance fee (I think $12 US), and part of the fee goes toward buying food from the restaurant, which is served beachside.

It has the most picturesque beach in Montego Bay. There is a small entrance fee ($6 US), and you have to pay for chairs and umbrellas if you want them ($6 US per piece). However, there are plenty of palm trees that can provide shade if you want to spread your towel underneath them. What we love the most is ordering food and drinks (The Bob Marley is a must) right from our lounge chairs. Some days are quiet and other days (when the cruise ships are in) are lively with music blasting from the speakers. We love both kinds of days.

Arts & Culture

This square is dedicated to one of Jamaica's national heroes Sam Sharpe, who led a very large slave rebellion in 1832 for which he was executed. His last words: "I would rather die among yonder gallows, than live in slavery." The National Gallery West (a museum) is right next door and has interesting exhibits.
