Squirrelled away, up a narrow staircase, in the attic of an unassuming brick building on a street bordering the Takase canal, L’EscaMoteur is a bar in Kyoto reminiscent of Paris’s belle époque. Named after the old French word for an illusionist or magician, L’EscaMoteur is a bijou bar that prides itself on creating an air of mystery, as well as delicious, life-giving elixirs. And it certainly does not disappoint.
We suggest talking with the elegantly dressed, knowledgeable and talented bar staff, and soaking up the décor, which is an Alice-in-Wonderland-style mix of vintage European and modern steampunk. Nestled under the imposing ceiling beams, there’s a glorious paraphernalia of books, hats, bike parts, vintage decanters and more. A conglomeration that conjures up a reimagined image of Paris or London from 100 years ago, which is a delight to explore.

It's a really characteristic barbecue meat shop! Actually you have to cook there by yourself! It's looks really dirty and smoky but is really really nice and clean and very tasty!

Ways to save
BUS ONE-DAY PASS (CITY BUS & KYOTO BUS)
Adults: ¥600, children (6 to 11 years old): ¥300
This pass only covers buses and can be used for unlimited rides on City Bus and Kyoto Bus in the flat-fare zones for the duration of one day. If you plan to ride just the bus three or more times in one day, buying this pass will save you money! You can also get special offers at some tourist spots if you present this ticket on the day of use. Please note that travelling outside the applicable flat-fare zones will require an extra fee.

JAPAN RAIL PASS
JAPAN RAIL PASS, a joint offering of the six companies comprising the Japan Railways Group (JR Group), is the most economical means of travelling throughout Japan by rail.
There are some restrictions on use; for example, JAPAN RAIL PASS cannot be used for travel on NOZOMI and MIZUHO trains on the Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen lines.
