Drinks & Nightlife

This is a great bar that has a canteen style dining set up. They don't just do soup! The food is reasonably priced (given it's a city centre place and in the Northern Quarter) and it's delicious. They also have excellent gigs in the basement.

A lovely old pub. It has the most beautiful tiled interior. The beer selection is excellent (brewed onsite) and they do brilliant 'pub grub'. It feels like experiencing a bit of history; you start to imagine all the people who have spent a night out here decades ago. It's a bit out of town, but worth it for the atmosphere!

Food Scene

Perfect breakfast choices and lunch. They also open later on for drinks and bar snacks.

Delicious Korean food. It's a tiny little place, and gets busy and full up easily, so you might struggle for a table. They don't have a licence for alcohol, but there's lots of excellent alternative drink choices. It also shuts quite early (I think about 9 or 10pm) so plan to go early! This is one of those gems you find occasionally and they'll give you a massive portion of Kimchi too :)

Traditional Ethiopian curry! You get lots of food for your money too. It's not somewhere you'd necessarily find easily as it's above a takeaway place. You have to go up the stair case. The staff are friendly and really helpful. Great Ethiopian beer too!

Essentials

Aldi is our local grocery store. They do cheaper versions of well known brands and their food is generally very good quality. They don't have *everything* (for that you'll need the big Sainsbury's in Fallowfield), but it's ideal for essentials and some extras too.

Arts & Culture

HOME is a culture venue, they have an independent cinema (very good listings!), theatre, contemporary performance and dance, and they have an art gallery. Well worth looking at their website and seeing if there's anything you fancy seeing/experiencing while you're in Manchester. Also the bar is lovely and the food is great, but not cheap!
