The farmers market at Hackescher Markt is definitely worth a visit. Buy fresh lavender, delicious desserts, local produce, Turkish baked goods and much more. You can probably find a second-hand book there too.

Summer in Berlin usually means lots of sun and high temperatures. If you need to cool off then go to one of Berlin's many lakes. A great one is Weißer See where there is a beach as well as a beach bar area called Strandbad Weißensee. Easy access from Mitte; just jump on the Tram 12.

So if you want to know more visit the museum or simply take a walk along the places where the Iron Curtain split Berlin into West and East. Info signs along the way explain more and a double row of cobble stones marks the original leap of the Wall. The entire Berlin Mauer walk is 17 km long, but you can choose to jump in any place you want;-)

This is a great flea market, open during the weekends. It is a bit more expensive than the one at Mauerpark, but you can sometimes find some exceptional vintage pieces such as beautiful lamps, an old gramophone or big letters that were probably part of interesting shop signs in their former lives...
