WINE TOURISM Live a unique wine experience near archaeological place!!! Nemea is a beautiful region with small hills, vast vineyards, good wine and its own grape variety called Agiorgitiko. It is known from Greek mythology and its turbulent history since ancient times. Only an hour away from Kiveri you will encounter a magnificent landscape with lush vegetation where you can choose from a wide range of activities, such as hiking, mountain biking, archery and of course wine tasting. It is the ideal place to enjoy the green view with a glass of wine, escaping for a while from the intense pace of the city. History Nemea has a rich history since it has been continuously inhabited since Neolithic times (6000 to 5000 BC). This is where the Nemea took place, sports-religious games that were part of the cycle of Panhellenic games of the time, along with the games at Delphi, the Isthmus and of course Olympia. The city took part in almost all the wars between Athens and Sparta and is considered the site of the last victory of the Spartans over the Athenians. Findings in excavations show that since Antiquity it was a viticultural area that produced famous wine. Today it is the largest wine region in Greece where one of the most famous wines of the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO NEMEA) is produced. Here one can visit the Temple of Nemean Zeus and the Ancient Stadium as well as the Museum of Ancient Nemea where, among other things, one can see the treasure of Aedonia, a rare treasure found in a Mycenaean cemetery next to the village of Aedonia. A visit to the wineries and the vineyards of Nemea can be combined with a fully organized wine tasting activity at one or more of the wineries accompanied by finger food and other interactive activities such as traditional grape pressing, bike rides through the vineyards and cooking products. CHATEAU SEMELI The winery is a point of reference in the field of wine in Greece, both for its advanced facilities, innovative design and special architecture, as well as for its excellent hospitality. Built with respect for the environment, at an altitude of 600m. on a vine-covered hillside that has long had a reputation for producing high-quality grapes, the Semeli estate winery expresses their holistic approach to modern winemaking. You can visit it and taste a glass of wine.
