Food Scene

Right now, it is closed for renovation work and will hopefully reopen in June, 2020. When it opens, it is a super fun place to go! It is in the heart of the downtown with breakfast, lunch, and light dinner (it closes at 7:00pm). There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Great people watching on the plaza and the place to go for your newspaper, magazine, or books. I personally love the soups and the veggie burgers. The pastries are pretty good as well!

I am going to have to reccomend this under 2 catagories as the food is great (very fresh with a changing menu), and the live music entertainment is incredible! You never know what local famous musician may show up (Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead is a part owner). It is also a fun place to be when the Warriors or the Giants are playing!

Good coffee... but I go there for the delicious and unique waffles. They are gluten free and come either savory (try out the ham & cheese) or traditional sweet (fresh fruit & syrup). The place is usually packed with cyclists and fans of their eclectic and unique menu of many offerings.

Essentials

The Canapa Family has owned and run this remarkable Market for at least 3 (maybe 4?) generations. It was one of the first markets to encourage buying locally and organically. It is a feast for the eyes as well as your belly! Delicious fresh foods as well as fresh made pre-packaged meals to take home and heat up. Their deli is second to none with a huge assortment of hot foods, sandwiches, and bakery choices. The wine department has a vast selection or hard-to-find local wines as well as excellent wines from all over California and beyond.

Arts & Culture

The Marin Theatre Company has a huge following as the plays that are presented are top notch and riveting. The professionalism is on par to plays you would see in New York Theaters and other highly professional and inovative stages. The acting is superb and the plays themselves are provocitve, and deeply entertaining. Be sure to check out the latest production and try to make time to go see it.

The 142 Throckmorton Theatre is a must see and experience! The Theatre hosts live shows from all over. From entertaining plays, to musical shows (check out Django Fest), to lectures, and Comedy. Every Tuesday night is live Comedy that hysterically funny and showcases the top Comedians from all over the world. This has been a favorite place for Robin Williams and Dana Carvey to come try out new material and just hang out. We miss Robin so much. The in-house artist Steve Coleman is a brilliant and beautiful set designer. Don't miss seeing the Tivoli room and the main Theatre to truly experience his masterpieces. Be sure to check out what is going on at the theatre and do try to go see it.

This is a magnificent Mountain. Views of the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco ( depending where you are) are just the begining of the experience of being on the Mountain. There are dozens of hiking trails... many of them directly accessible from Mill Valley and just outside our door.

A popular and smaller beach, Muir Beach is a great place to relax and enjoy the ocean. Stop off at the Peilcan Inn for a cozy meal or drink by the crackeling fire. You will feel as if you had stepped back in time on a shire of England.

A must see! Plan to spend at least 2 hours so you can take your time to marvel at the amazing Giant Towering Redwood Trees that can only be experienced in this area. They are nowhere else in the world to be found. If possible, get in on a docent tour, as you will be amazed by the history of these magnificent and rare trees. There is limited parking, and Muir Woods only takes cars with prior reservations. Be sure to make your reservation before you go as there is no wifi or cell service there. It is only about a 15-minute drive from my house.

This is a great way to spend part of a day and be on the Bay. Take a ferry over from Tiburon and either rent a Segway, or hike the island. It is easy walking and the paths are well marked. The views of the surrounding bay area are stunning and the History of the Island is fasinating. Bring a picnic or enjoy the Cafe that is open May thru October weather permitting.

Shopping

This a fun and eclectic store filled with greeting cards for every occation and then some! The owner avidly supports the local artists and makes cards of their art, so many of the cards are unique and local. It has Mill Valley Tee Shirts, dog toys, hats, and assorted fun gifts. I love listening to people cracking up while reading a card. It is a bit on the liberal side, so be forwarned!
