Although a bit of a trek out of town, Silvermine is a great place for children and families to enjoy the cool reservoir on a hot summers day. There are also numerous hiking trails with spectacular views over Cape Town's southern suburbs.

Visitors flock to Cape Point. Personally I feel its a long drive for a view out to sea but is listed in all the guidebooks and is very popular with tourists. I feel hiking up Table Mountain or around Silvermine provides better vistas of the sea and city without the crowds.
