If you like classical music, its a must to buy a ticket to a concert in the Bartok Bela hall. There is also a theater-hall n the building having smaller capacity. There is an electrical organ somewhere in the building (3 manuals + pedal) which you can play and listen to in headset.

A must-see for locals and tourists keen on history, the Hungarian National Museum (Magyar Nemzeti Múzeum) stands on the boulevard that takes its name, Múzeum körút. Founded in the early 1800s, set up in this grandiose Neo-Classical landmark from the 1840s, the National Museum played its own part in Hungarian history when patriotic poet Sándor Petőfi instigated the 1848 Revolution by reading out his Nemzeti dal on these very steps. Today the museum offers a chronological walk through Hungarian history, archaeological, historical and ethnic relics illustrating the changing face of the Carpathian Basin over the centuries. The urban history of Budapest brings the capital into sharper focus. Look out for the temporary exhibitions – these recently featured the controversial Seuso Treasure of silverware from the late Roman era.

The area of Józsefváros just inside the Kiskörút is the most prestigious in District VIII, with atmospheric squares and grandiose residencies once occupied by noblemen, who used these properties as their pied-à-terre in Budapest. Strolling around here today is somewhat like time travel, making the quarter a popular spot for film shootings. All sits behind the National Museum, with its newly refurbished gardens, and the ornate Szabó Ervin Library. Between there and Kálvin tér, students fill the nearby bars and internet cafés. Terraces line Mikszáth Kálmán tér while after dark, venues such as Lumen on Horánszky utca stage live music.

Named after Hungary’s most famous composer in 1945, Bartók Béla Út is a tree-lined avenue. A statue of 20th-century writer Géza Gárdonyi stands outside the literary café that both typified this stately neighborhood when active in the pre-war era, and pioneered its revival after reopening in 2010 – the Hadik. Adjoining it, the Szatyor (‘Bag’) has an arty, ruin-bar feel typical of early 21st-century Budapest, but its name derives from a quote from 1930s Hadik regular, writer Frigyes Karinthy, originator of the concept of six degrees of separation.
