Food Scene

Trinosophes is the best cafe to work from if you need wifi and want to break away from the apartment. Good coffee, great food, fun music and people watching. They also feature amazing live performances on weekend nights.

If you're here on a Monday and Trinosophes isn't open, then check out Germack. They have a wide variety of coffee and tea options as well as a nice assortment of baked goods from some of Detroit's favorite bakery and pastry shops.

Sightseeing

Walking along the River Walk on a warm summer evening is one of my most favorite things to do in Detroit. The people watching is inspiring. You will see every type of Detroiter out and about, young and old. Ask a local to point out where "the mound" is and then hike up it for a great view.

I love this unique homage to boxing legend Joe Louis. It's a uniquely Detroit site, and just east of it you can also check out the Spirit of Detroit statue which is equally inspiring. If you have more time, then check out Hart Plaza (just south along Jefferson) to see the iconic park that Isamu Noguchi designed.

It's one of the nicest museums in the country, and it's not often recognized for that. Don't miss the Diego Rivera mural or the museum's amazing collection of contemporary African-American art.

DITNB is a good place to get a sense of local Detroit style. Skip the cheesy souvenirs and take something home from here instead.

Essentials

I love this little market. You can get great teas, cheeses, candy, snacks from around the world, local milk, and so much more. This is a great place to pick-up local food items and there is a wine store just 2 store-fronts away on the same little block.
