Sightseeing

The Siriuskogel which rises 130 meters above the town is one of the most popular walking destinations for visitor to Bad Ischl. From the town centre you can reach the summit of the Siriuskogel in about 20 minutes. At the top, as well as a cafe, you will also find a wooden tower known as Franz-Josephs-Warte which was built in 1885, and offers a magnificent view over Bad Ischl. With views to the west this is a great place to watch the sunset on a warm, clear night.

The Siriuskogel which rises 130 meters above the town is one of the most popular walking destinations for visitor to Bad Ischl. Since 1959 visitors to Bad Ischl have been able to take the cable car up the Katrin mountain to 1,400 meters. The trip on the charming 4-person cable car takes approximately 15 minutes. Alternatively you can walk to the top of the mountain along various routes from the valley. The walks to the top can take in excess of 2 ½ hours. There is a restaurant (Katrin Berggasthof) as you get out of the cable car, or you can take the short walk down to the cafe (Katrin Almhütte). The Katrin mountain is a nature reserve and there are many marked trails and hikes you can make from the cable car station, and good walking shoes/boots are recommended for these walks

The outdoor stream (Lazy River) is a popular attraction and takes the bather into the lovely garden area and past various spa stations surrounded by 34°C warm water. There are also various massage and treatments available for visitors. A good day out for everyone.

It was here that Franz Josef signed the declaration of was against Serbia in 1914 that was to escalate into a world war. The villa has large park grounds and gardens which house the photography museum.
