Choose from over 1000 places to stay in Edinburgh
Oak panelled walls, wooden window shutters, and warm parquet floors surround you. Choose from hundreds of books and read in a secret bed box behind floor-to-ceiling shelves. Family portraits and heirlooms happily coexist with works of modern art.
Romantic and stylish apartment, It's the perfect base from which to explore Edinburgh from. I've already had some great people come and stay, so I welcome you to my home. Edinburgh castle is a short walk away from the apartment, and the National Gallery, St Giles Cathedral, National Museum of Scotland are all close by. My apartment is on the fourth floor of an 18th Century tenement with views on to the historic Royal Mile. With all mod cons and a unique location, this is the perfect apartment to have as a base while you explore Edinburgh. The apartment retains the unique character of the Old Town with oak panelled walls and parquet flooring, mixed with family portraits, antiques and works of art, but also all the modern comforts of a home. It is on the fourth floor and is reached by a spiral staircase (76 steps in all!) For our American cousins that's a walkup :-) There is no elevator. The apartment is South facing and full of light by day. The hall has a cupboard to hang clothes/store shoes etc. There is also an ironing board/iron and a hair dryer kept here as well. The bathroom has a bath and a shower, there is always hot water and plenty of towels for you to have. Then through the main door off the hall, is the open plan living space. Five full height original Georgian sash windows face you as you walk into the space. Floor to ceiling book cases and a large period fireplace with French empire over-mantle mirror. There is free wifi throughout the apartment, also a big collection of fiction/history/cookery/poetry/art/design books to while away the time with and I have a music/radio player with an eclectic choice of C.Ds. Plus cards and board games. A large kitchen space with character and all the modern cons - toaster, fridge and freezer, dishwasher, oven, kettle, induction hob etc. However I don't own a microwave. There is a washing machine and there is washing liquid capsules for it under the sink, just put one of these inside the washing machine drum and close the door and turn to what ever setting you want. I do not have a dryer (it's not that typical here in Scotland/Europe) what I do have is a clothes horses which you can hang your clothes on. Their kept folded up in the hall cupboard. I hate staying in apartments on holiday where there aren't even any basics to cook with like salt and olive oil, so the kitchen is stocked with all the usual larder fare to help yourself to if you're cooking in. Plus coffee and all sorts of teas. I also have an honesty bar if you want to finish off with a drink or two after a long day of walking around town. By the windows is the generous dining space with oak dinning table and six chairs. The bed is a unique 'bedbox chamber' made from architectural salvaged fitted Scottish 18th/19th century carved oak. A floor to ceiling hidden panelled door lets you into this cosy space with reading lights on the headboard and it is fitted out with a British king size mattress - width 150cm and length 200cm, white cotton sheets, pillows and duvet. Mary Queen of Scots would feel quite at home sleeping in it! The living room area of the apartment is tucked at the West side of the room and has two good size sofas, reading lamps and is perfect to socialize in and also have quiet time with a good book. I hope to hear from you. I'm more than happy to answer any questions or give advice about Edinburgh/restaurants/bars etc All the best Calim The whole apartment is for you and is not shared with anyone else. I should be able to meet you in person to let you in, show you the apartment and answer any questions. Sometimes, due to your arrival time and what I'm up to, I wont be able to meet you personally and so will arrange to leave keys at the building to collect. You can contact me by phone or on airbnb at anytime during your stay. Check-in is usually any time after 1pm and check-out times are 10.30am. However I'm flexible and I will try and accommodate your schedule whenever possible. So with that in mind it's really helpful to know your travel plans so please let me know what time you intend to arrive and depart and by what method of transport when you book.
Edinburgh is beautiful and historic. This apartment is in the oldest part of the city, close to the castle. Museums, restaurants, and good coffee shops are really close by, as are the train station and airport links. You can get to Edinburgh by plane, train, car. It's a city made for walking, but if you want there is a very good public travel system. Buses cost £1.70 per journey of £4.00 for day ticket. Taxis are easy to wave down and book, they are expensive for short journeys but very practical if you need to get across town in a hurry. If you bring a car (which I'd advise strongly against if you can help it!) these are the options... Parking in the Old Town of Edinburgh is problematic, as there is no direct free parking as its so small and historic. What spaces you'd find are for residents or pay by the hour spaces. There is no parking on the royal mile/near the castle or anywhere very close to my apartment. However there is parking on Chambers Street and Johnstone Terrrace which is a short walk from James Court. But you can only park there for a maximum of four hours and it's currently £2.60 an hour. It is however free to park there between 6.30pm and 8.30am every day and on Sunday it's free all day. If your looking for something more long term and without to much hassle there is also free parking on the streets of Leith for example Albert Street and also in Stockbridge...... if you can find a space as you drive around. Then it's a case of either getting a bus to and from your car or walking between it and James Court. There is a car park at Waverley train station which is about a 15 min walk from the apartment which costs £19.00 a day to leave your car for 24 hours and the round the clock access. There is also a great free park and ride scheme run by the council. Where you can park your car outside the city and then get a bus into the city for £1.70 (they do not give change so have the right money). There is a tram from the airport which costs £5.50 (£8.50 return) and you would get off at princes street and walk up the Mound on to the Royal Mile and my apartment. The shuttle airport bus costs £4.50 (£7.50 return) and you would get off outside Waverley train station and walk up Market street, on to the Royal Mile. If your looking into hiring a car so you can escape into the countryside for the day. There are a number of car hire business in Edinburgh that allow you to do day hire.

A lovely city centre location, easy access to all areas. This flat is ideal for a short or longer stay any time of the year. The " Main Door" is at street level with only 7 steps up into flat....Easy access with luggage! !
A lovely real city centre location with easy access to all areas. This is ideal for a short or longer stay any time of the year. The front of the apartment looks out over the famous Greyfriars Kirkyard. The building has an interesting history - in the 18th century it was a candlemakers' factory, it housed a radical political book shop and vegan cafe in the 1970's and was also home to our antiques shop for many years. It was recently converted with plans by architect Greg Holstead, who has appeared on the tv show Grand Designs. The exposed original stonework is an attractive feature and the beautiful wooden floor was made by recycling a local school gym floor. The contemporary decor and the quirky feel makes this a bright and airy, comfortable space. It comprises an open-plan living/dining/kitchen space with a separate bed room to the back and a bathroom. WIFI included Guests have exclusive use of the entire property We will meet guests on arrival and sometimes on leaving The Grassmarket is situated in the Old Town area of Edinburgh and is famous for being the original market, the site of public executions!Hangings!! The haunt of Burke and Hare (grave robbers), however now is an area famed for bars, restaurants and speciality shopping. Excellent central position means this apartment is within walking distance from many tourist attractions. Also easy access to public transport with regular buses and a local tram service a short walk away which will take you to Edinburgh Airport.
We do need a Profile Photo in request as we meet guests personally and need to be able to I.D. them easily..( Edinburgh can be very busy and lots of people with luggage!!)

Old Town, Edinburgh

A Unique City Centre Apartment
£ 65
My apartment is situated in the heart of Dean Village, a tranquil area located 10 minutes from the busy city centre. It is a 10 minute walk to Princes Street with the Water of Leith, Stockbridge and the New Town close by. The apartment is small and cosy, located within a 19th century courtyard providing a unique charm to all of its guests. It is the perfect location for couples, solo travellers and business travellers.
The apartment is very cosy, calm and close to the city centre. With it's simple interior and beautiful views of the courtyard, it is the perfect location to really experience Edinburgh and it's history Guests will have access to the Kitchen, Bathroom, Living room and private bedroom. Guests will have the whole apartment to themselves and are encouraged to use all the facilities. I normally meet the guests when they arrive to hand over the keys and give them some information about the area if they would like. Normally it's just a 5-10 minute chat and that is all the contact I have with guests.
Dean Village is a tourist attraction in itself, a hidden village within the busy city of Edinburgh. It contains a mixture of 16th, 17th and 18th century architecture and is the perfect place to find peace while enjoying the beautiful surroundings. It is also close to the Water of Leith which you can walk along, enjoying nature and guiding you to the nearby bars, shops and cafes located in Stockbridge. Public Transport is a 5 minute walk from the flat. The tram stop is a 10 minute walk from Dean Village which is the ideal mode of transport for visitors getting to and from the airport. Edinburgh is relatively small and most of the time it is quicker walking than getting the bus however the option is always available. The parking outside the flat is for permit holders only however there is pay and display options 2 minutes away. The flat is on the third floor which may not me suitable for all age groups. In addition, I would say the bed is slightly too low for elderly guests to get in and out of comfortably
