Originally built in the mid-19th-century, our delightful property boasts a fascinating past, having once served as the town's smokehouse. Local history suggests it played a vital role as a food store, where bacon was carefully air dried or perhaps where the town's cheesemonger would have stored their finest selections for the shop located in the main building.

It is just a short walk to the University of Essex via Wivenhoe Public pathway. The the train station is also only 15 minute walk away through the Wivenhoe trail. The area is full of 2nd World War history and is renowned for the oldest Chapel in Europe which is a three mile walk along our wonderful coastline via the sea wall. The area is also popular with walkers,bird watchers, sailors,photographers and many watersport enthusiasts.
