Japanese Tea Garden (part of San Mateo Central Park) is a must see. Small walking trail leads you through a winding path of bonsai trees, tea houses, and koi ponds. Beautiful, serene and no entrance fee. Great place to eat lunch/dinner or just hang out. Get there early to enjoy Tai Chi. Join a game of volleyball, kick around a soccer ball, play tennis or just lay on the grass. Enjoy music in the park every Thursday evening in the summer.

Nice park right in downtown San Mateo. Includes a green field, big playground for kids, and a beautiful Japanese garden with a koi pond. The Japanese garden is a wonderful, serene spot to take in the landscaping or enjoy your lunch. The park has concerts and events regularly in the summer.
