Take a ferry cruise to visit the Statue of Liberty and/or Ellis Island. On Liberty Island, you will have to reserve a ticket to get inside the Statue of Liberty ahead of time, but everybody can walk up close on the outside and explore the original torch inside the new museum pavilion. On Ellis Island, the tour and exhibit are a lot more involved and time-consuming. Very interesting for school-age children, but combining both activities might make a day's worth of sightseeing.

Statue Cruises is the only provider authorized by the National Park Service to take visitors to the Statue of Liberty. Tickets may also be purchased at the ferry departure points in Battery Park in NYC.
