The Balik Pulau Hakka Village will house a cultural museum showcasing the history of Balik Pulau in general, and the Hakka community in particular. Exhibits are expected to be signaged in Mandarin, Malay and English. The Balik Pulau Hakka Village project is spearheaded by the Penang Khek Association and is expected to cost in the region of RM20 million. The centrepiece of the Balik Pulau Hakka Village is a Hakka tulou, the circular abode that is characteristic of Hakka architecture in Fujian Province, China. In addition, there will be a man-made lake, a cycling path and stalls selling Hakka-inspired souvenirs and delicacies. The village will provide visitors an insight into the various commodity crops grown by the people of Balik Pulau such as nutmeg, clove, rubber and of course, Balik Pulau durian. For the locals, it will generate employment as well as awareness and pride over their heritage.
