Bit of a journey, needs 4WD can be very spectacular for eruptions on clear days only. Combine with Irazu volcano but better with a guide as directions are few to non existent.

Turrialba Volcano, the second highest peak in the Cordillera Central, reaches over the area. The volcano has been active on and off recently and therefore cannot be visited at the moment. From San Rafael near Cartago you can reach the summit of the well-known and much visited Irazú volcano after about 30 km. If the weather is nice, you will have a great view over the national park as well a into the two main craters of the volcano. You are at over 3'400 meters above sea level, it can be cold and windy - don't forget your jacket!

Rappeling (Canyoning) down the waterfalls with our highly recommended guide. An amazing experience. This tour is an intermediate level, as the hike up is also already quite adventurous. There are however easier rappeling tours in Sitio Mata that we also recommend. Also suitable for children. Lunch is included with both tours.
