Check out the Basin for easy hiking trails, picnic areas, and some cold river swimming spots! Our tip is to walk up-river on the bike path to find your own secluded place to dip in.
There is an 8 mile paved path along Franconia Notch with lots of hiking, biking, and stroller friendly opportunities. The basin is one of the sight seeing spots in the notch.
Parking can get full. Weekdays are less busy. Hiking and sightseeing are great here.
It’s a quick trip and easy walk to see this natural wonder. There are a number of small waterfalls as well as a more challenging hike to Kinsman Falls.
(easy) A must-see natural area that’s also handicap-accessible. The main attraction here is a wide natural “basin” eroded by the relentless rushing waterfall above. We know Henry David Thoreau visited this spot in 1839, when he wrote in his journal that “this pothole is perhaps the most remarkable curiosity of its kind in New England.” If you wander further past the Basin, the whole family can enjoy scrambling along smooth eroded rock and wading in sections off the side of the main trail. You can access the Basin from the northbound or southbound highway.
