In this street are beautiful shops. One of them is ‘Droog’. A high-end contemporary design trendsetter for 20 years, Droog tripled its size and now includes a gallery, a café, a tearoom, and (on the top floor) a hotel.

“Amsterdam is perfectly set up for getting on your bike - there are around 515km (320 miles) of dedicated cycle lanes. Renting a bike (fiets verhuur) is straight forward and will set you back from around € 10,- for a day rental for a basic back-pedal single gear bike. Cheaper rates per day can be had if you rent for a longer period or rent in a group. There are a number of rental outfits around the city. Zwarte Fietsenplan is on these and just ariund the corner.”

Historic Site
“Seen across the water, the small island of Pampus looks like any other island. But take a closer look and you’ll see this is no natural land mass at all, but a submerged sea fort built in the 1890s to protect Amsterdam from enemies. After a restoration in 2007, you can now visit Fort Pampus by boat and explore its secret tunnels - and it’s also a popular location for events.”

“Droog is a conceptual design company that focus on matters that affect society and its people. The work is anti-disciplinary. And the outcome can be anything that contributes to society.”
