There's nothing like seeing an event at the historic, 250-seat Stonington Opera House: experience first-run feature films, community theater and musical evenings from jazz to folk.

The original opera house was built in 1886 during the granite boom but burned down in 1910 (ironically, on the first night the town’s fire hydrants were operational). It was rebuilt in 1912 and over the years served as a home for theater performances, basketball games, film showings, rollerskating, and the town hall. However, with changing technology and a fluctuating town population, the building eventually fell into disrepair as it sat unused for years in the 90s (apart from a family of raccoons who declared it “home”). Thankfully, the building had been placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the nonprofit Opera House Arts purchased it in 1999 with a vision for a new future.

Great combination of first run movies, live music and theatre, in an historic old movie house. Check their website or the Advantages for current showings.
