Take a drive to Cockle Creek ( the southernmost point your can drive to in Australia) and then walk across to the stunning, windswept South Cape Bay (approximately 4 hours return - moderate rating). A short 510 minute return walk to the Bronze Whale Sculpture is a great one with small children or anyone really. You must hold a National Parks Pass one you cross the bridge at Cockle Creek. Great Beaches for a swim too!

The magnificent Southwest National Park encompasses over six hundred thousand hectares of wild, inspiring country and forms part of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. The park, the largest in Tasmania, epitomises the granduer and spirit of wilderness in its truest sense. The Gordon River and Scotts Peak roads wind through forest, scrub and moorland, sometimes opening out onto breathtaking views of rugged mountains like the Saw Back, Anne, Western Arthur and Frankland ranges. This is wilderness at its best, and it is equally accessible to those who enjoy the comfort of driving as it is to those who wish to walk in some of the most spectacular country in Australia.

The park makes up part of Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage Area and features some of the country’s most untouched coastline, button grass plains, wild rivers, dramatic mountain ranges, and ancient rainforest. The South Cape Bay Track (4 hrs return / 7.7 km one way) offers a taste of the famed multi-day South Coast Track. Keep an eye out for the local wildlife, including special birdlife.
