Peruvanam Mahadeva Temple is one of the most important and famous 'Gramakshetras' (The epicenter of spiritual life in the ancient Brahmin Settlements of Kerala) It is famous for its vast layout, architecture, and wooden carvings and mural paintings in abundance on the walls, pillars and ceilings. A must watch not only for devotees, but those passionate with history, fine art and architecture. The annual Pooram festival is a rare treat for those interested in 'Melam' the percussion ensemble of Chenda. A Melam generally feature more than a hundred percussionists play together. Peruvanam Pooram features 4 Melam and one Panchavadyam. The Pooram occurs in the month of either April or May, every year. Peruvanam is just 10km from Mud Castle
