The oldest museum in northeastern Pennsylvania is also one of its best. The Everhart Museum is located within Nay Aug Park and offers visitors the chance to explore world cultures, natural beauty, and fantastic art without leaving the city. In addition to dinosaur fossils and a collection of 2,500 taxidermied birds, the museum is home to the largest collection of paintings from local artist John Willard Raught.

Founded in 1908, the Everhart Museum is one of the oldest museums in Northeastern Pennsylvania and part of the early 20th-century regional museum movement. With over a dozen galleries to explore there is something for everyone at the Everhart. We love their permanent bird and wildlife exhibit and it is right next to Nay Aug Park where you can explore trails, the gorge and a treehouse!

Everhart is home to the world’s largest private collection of modern and contemporary art. The museum is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Philadelphia, PA. In the 2018 “50 Best Art Museums in the United States,” the Everhart Museum was ranked at #35. The museum was founded in 1883 and since that time has worked hard to create a collection of art that is truly world-class. One exhibit you may like to check out is “The Body Machine.” It is an interactive art exhibit that uses various machines and techniques to create a multi-media art experience for visitors.
