Who doesn't want to see where a rock that looked like a head *used* to be?

15-20 minute drive See the mountainside location where the Great Stone face once was. In May of 2003, Mother Nature reclaimed the official symbol of New Hampshire, crashing it to the bottom of Franconia Notch. Check out the museums memorabilia and photos. There is a great siting area at the base of Cannon Mt.where you can view where he once was. You might try your hand at fly fishing in Echo or Profile Lake for trout, too!

Iconic NH The Old Man of the Mountain, also known as the Great Stone Face or the Profile,[1] was a series of five granite cliff ledges on Cannon Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, United States, that appeared to be the jagged profile of a face when viewed from the north. The rock formation was 1,200 feet (370 m) above Profile Lake, and measured 40 feet (12 m) tall and 25 feet (7.6 m) wide. The site is located in the town of Franconia. The first recorded mention of the Old Man was in 1805. It collapsed on May 3, 2003.[2] There is still a view point parking area, and Franconia Notch is beautiful to drive through or stop and visit Franconia Notch State Park.
