One of Scotland's oldest and most-impressive castles, a short drive from Larriston

Magnificent ruined castle stronghold of Scottish noblemen and monarchy and particularly the Earl of Bothwell badly wounded and nursed by a visit from Mary Queen of Scots standing proud as an awesome monument to the turbulent past history of this area.

It is a wild historical castle (ruin) with great atmosphere, in the middle of "no-where".

Worth the trip. A brooding and forbidding presence in a very remote and previously dangerous part of the border country, guarding the approaches into Scotland at the historic region of Liddesdale.
