Why locals recommend it

This is where the party never ends in New Orleans. It gets very crowded on weekends and even more so on holidays and Mardi Gras. A lot of drunk people. And a lot of weird things happen here. Be safe, and always have a buddy system.

Go here for an evening, 2 max, you'll have a great time, just don't wake the neighbors when you come back at 3AM ;)

Bourbon Street is an experience, and you should definitely walk down it with a hand grenade (it's a drink, you'll see what I mean) at least once. That might be enough for you, or it might be your scene. The most common New Orleans advice I see is to wear closed-toe shoes if you're on Bourbon, since you never know what you're going to step in.

Actually two gay bars (straight-friendly), the downstairs Bourbon Pub and the upstairs Parade dance club. A starting point for many gay visitors.

Not necessarily a local favorite but you kinda have to spend a night out on Bourbon Street if you've never been here before...
