Located next to the Brookland (red line) metro station, the Arts Walk is a pedestrian walkway lined with local artisans' shops and studios. Saturday mornings feature a bustling farmers market; during the week, hours of activities may vary.

This is a little street with a farmer's market and a ton of small, local, artsy businesses that are open Saturday morning/afternoon. It's right next to the metro, so it's a great area to explore and get a snack (I can't say enough about Lei Musubi!) before heading down to the Mall.
