The museum was opened in 1980. It is located along the Kisumu- Kericho Highway. It features a gallery of cultural materials of people from Western Kenya, in particular, Luo artefacts and other traditional aspects like the Luo homestead. It also features an outdoor snake park, tortoise pens, aquariums and a crocodile site.

The kisumu museums is also one of the best sites you can't miss. Its exhibits focus on the natural and cultural history of Western Kenya. It features a collection of local flora and fauna, as well as a traditional luo homestead
