Tips from locals
Love our Zoo and go several times a week when I can. Great for walking and education and the gardens of the Zoo are even more amazing than the animals!
The best zoo ever. Great walking trails and very well planned. The plants alone are worth seeing and the whole place is always changing. If you think you’ve seen it before, you really haven’t seen it. Every time I go there is something new to see that they have added.
If you visit in the month of October children can sometimes go in for free with an adult paid ticket. Check their website to see if they are still offering this major discount. If you are looking to save yourselves a few bucks on food you can pack a lunch and take inside so you don't pay for…
A must see for first time visitors to San Diego. The San Diego Zoo is fun, casual, and one of the better Zoo's in the US to visit.

Best zoo in the country. Really well thought out, maintained and curated. Unique plants from around the world, representative of the animals’ native foliage. Best info can be had on the bus or behind-the-scenes tours. Worth the extra money. Not a cheap outing, but well worth the money. Wear COMFY…
The San Diego Zoo is not only one of the best zoos in the country but in the entire world. With a safari park, an arboretum, an aviary and habitats to for its thousands of different animal species, the zoo sprawls across the entire north end of Balboa Park with easy access to and from Downtown.
This is one of the most authentically developed wild animal parks experienced. Walking through the lush 'heart of Africa'...the sights, the smells of the African indigenous flora, is very convincing!
Looking for somewhere to take the whole family? This is a place a great place to explore with lush, naturalistic habitats and unique animal encounters.
Go for the animals, enjoy the stroll and don’t miss the plants! More species in one place than anywhere in the world! It lives up to its status as a world class zoo!
