The Old Gateway or Roman Arch is not a Roman triumphal arch, as was once presumed, but a representative main entrance to the centre of the Late Antique command compound of the Roman Tarsatica, an ancient town on whose ruins the medieval Rijeka was built.

"Old doors" or so called. The Roman arch is not a triumphal glory as it used to be, but a representative portal of the main entrance to Pretoria, a military commando from the late antiquity. The Old Gate or the Roman Arch is not a Roman arch, as it was once assumed, but a representative main entrance to the center of the late Roman Command of Roman Tarsat, an ancient city over whose ruins the medieval Rijeka was raised. Rijeka's puk instinctively was right when this ancient monument in the past simply referred to Vratima and the name of the Roman arch gradually began to be accepted from the period of classicism when it began with its documentation and exploration.
