SEVENTY-FIVE YEARS: 1945-2020. Sugar 'n Spice has been a Balboa Island landmark since our doors first opened to the public way back in 1945. Our shop is the one-and-only “Original”, being the very first frozen banana and Balboa Bar shop on the Island.

On Balboa island - get a Balboa Bar (our favorite is vanilla ice cream, dark chocolate, and toasted coconut!). Be sure and walk around the outer ring of this tiny island.

Ever heard of Newport's "Banana Stand"? Well, this is it. Slide up to the window of this old Balboa landmark for a Balboa Bar or Frozen Banana. They stay open late (10pm) for dessert-getters. Also have good shakes, ice cream, sundaes, and hot dogs.
